Beginners Guide to Fighting in Saga of Ryzom
This resources is for those beginning a fighting character in Ryzom. Granted, fighting for the first 20-50 level's is pretty basic, however, this guide is designed to give you some hints and help point you in the right direction. These solutions might not be best for everyone, but could perhaps be a good starting point.

Any questions or comments can be emailed to us at sornews@warcry.com. Enjoy and happy playing!!

So you've created your first character, and you want to be a warrior. Welcome to our ranks. Before we get started, though, you DID make sure to select a Magic, Crafting, and Harvesting package, right? If not, you're going to want to start again. The fight skill starting package doesn't provide any real incentive to begin, as everyone can raise their first twenty levels of Fight using their bare hands. The other skills all require expensive buy-ins and will slow you down if you ever decide you want to use them. As Ryzom is primarily skill based, it never hurts to at least dabble in the other trades, so make sure you omit your Fight package, and grab one of the three other skill trees.
The path to grand mastery is a bloody one, but it all starts very simply: beating up Yubos with bare hands. Our first task is to take out a few of the fuzzy little guys and hit level 2, so we get 10 skill points and can purchase Increase Damage 1. The Increase Damage line is our best friend. From there, the sky is the limit. You can successfully make your way to level 100 using solely the Increase Damage line of attacks, provided you supplement yourself with decent armor, and eventually a strong weapon.

Speaking of weapons, level 20 is a good time to start looking into which one you'll really make your own. Everyone has their preference, but one weapon seems to have an advantage over the others: pikes. They're big, they're slow, they're damaging. They also ignore armor, which can really put a cramp in anything's style.

Of course, your offense is only half of the equation. Armor with a quality level close to your Fight level is something to strive for, as it'll offer the most protection overall. Higher quality stuff is great and all, but there are severe penalties for using stuff that's just too good. The debate between light, medium, and heavy armor rages on, but it's pretty safe to throw out light armor if you're going to be a pure warrior, and medium seems to be a bit flakey and based toward hybrids. In order to really be effective, heavy armor is really the only option. It carries a high penalty, but penalty doesn't have a tangible effect on melee combat, and it keeps you alive the longest.

You'll want to invest SP in the personal Heal stanzas, too, especially HP and Stamina. Unless you plan on becoming a hybrid mage, you can leave the Sap one alone until you have the leftover points. It would be best to avoid the "Aim at" line of attacks, despite their prevalence. They only activate on a critical hit, which are few and far between; they're just not worth the Stamina to use. However, Bleeding and Accurate Attack are great additions to the Increase Damage line, and can really make your routine attacks devastating. Needless to say, it's also good practice to keep your basic statistics as high as possible, so keep pumping Constitution, Metabolism, Strength, and Balance.

Of course, these are just the basics. There's always room for personal preference and advancement. The beauty of Ryzom is its openness, and looking to one source for the end-all be-all of any class is silly. The guide provided here is only a framework for what you will ultimately turn into something that's both personal and unique.
